The River

The story behind the film

The Wisconsin River has always had a special place in Abbie’s heart. She grew up spending her summer’s kayaking dow it with her family, and it was the source of several great memories from her childhood. So when Abbie & David told me they were getting married in the Wisconsin Dells, I knew the river had to be part of it. And it ended up being far more meaningful that simple nostalgia.

Getting to know Abbie & David, I learned that faith was a big part of both of their lives. In fact, David was training to become a pastor. But David openly admitted that his faith was much more recent, and that Abbie helped give him strength along the way. So in this sense, David was following in her footsteps. And he was also following her more literally to Baltimore where they were starting a life together as Abbie trained to be a nurse.

So in their wedding video, I symbolize Abbie’s ever-present faith by showing the Wisconsin River. This was her river, and her guiding path. I then show David apart from Abbie to symbolize his life before he met her, walking through the Norway pines in search of something… But then, once he finds Abbie, they start a new journey together. This journey is one of shared faith, and one that will take them to great new places.
