A North Shore Wedding in Bayfield

The story behind the film

Capturing Jessica & Dan’s adventurous spirit was easy on the gorgeous North Shore of Bayfield, WI, but there was a deeper story I wanted to capture in their wedding video as well. Because through all the possible paths through all the rivers, trails and trees, these two wanderers found each other, and that was pretty amazing. And then I also learned about their guiding light along the way.

If you needed any proof about Jessica’s sense of adventure, just know that she told me that she didn’t mind taking her wedding dress through trails, creaks, and trees before the ceremony. And I also learned that she and Dan had taken numerous trips together in Dan’s yellow VW Bus which they had converted into a photo booth for the wedding. So these things had to be included. But I also learned the story of where Jessica’s adventurous spirit came from, and that also had to be told.

Several years prior to the wedding, Jessica’s mom passed away, but one thing she left Jessica was her sense of adventure. And that’s when I realized that it was this sense of adventure that led Jessica to Dan. This is how they were able to find each other. So in the wedding video, I wanted to show how Jessica’s mom as a guiding light– sun beams through the trees.

Now that Jessica & Dan are starting on a new journey together– a “journey of a thousand miles” as their officiant said. And while that new journey began in Bayfield with friends and family, it actually started much earlier with Jessica’s mom and her sense of adventure. They say those who wander are not lost, and that couldn’t be more true for Jessica and Dan.
