A Countryside Love Story
Fireflies
The story behind the film
The more I talked to Julie & Peter, the more they talked about how proud they were of their new home out in the Minnesota countryside. And while this may sound like an unexciting place to film their Love Story, it couldn’t have been better.
As explained hilariously by the couple themselves, Julie was a hard one to catch. She tried introducing herself to Peter as a friend on Facebook numerous times, but quickly deleted the requests before he could accept them. Time and time again, she appeared and then disappeared, just like a firefly. Finally, Peter caught the request before it could be deleted and the rest is history.
So when the fireflies lit up during our filming, I knew it was the perfect representation of the start of their story. This added to the building of a fire which was planned to symbolize the building of their relationship together, and a recreation of their engagement with a bottle of wine and a countryside sunset. In the end, Julie & Peter managed to catch each other against all odds, like catching an ember sparked from a campfire, a star shooting across the sky, or even a firefly.
Hidden gems
Peter popped the question to Julie on a golf course at sunset, which was recreated by the sunset scene in their Love Story.
